- READ.ME File - QLIB3 - v2.03
-
- Thanx for your interest in the QLIB3 Library/Catalog package.
-
- The CREATIVE RESOURCES Software Catalog/Library Management System
- (QLIB3) is a menu-driven program, which is set up for maximum
- ease of use by members of PC User Groups and others to gain
- access to listings of available software in the user group (or
- personal or corporate) library. It also provides easy means for
- the user or club librarian to add new entries or edit existing
- ones, to minimize errors, and ease reporting of the library
- contents by user definable report "filters" and software
- categories, as well as file name and disk label data.
-
- Menu selections include new disk listing import, edit entries,
- query entries, merge library files, reindex files, and a
- comprehensive report menu and filter selections, and a means of
- restarting the program for a different library/catalog data file
- without the need to exit to the operating system. This version
- includes command line options to allow direct access to your
- library data file, and to force monochrome mode to override the
- automatic selection of color or monochrome monitor, user-defined
- printer setup strings, and a check for adequate disk space prior
- to actions requiring more space. Also included are user-
- definable screen colors and extensive on-line help for many
- functions and menu selections. A minimum of knowledge of
- computers is assumed.
-
- The program and its associated files have all been compressed using
- the PKZIP/PKUNZIP utilities into a self-extracting archive file. It
- is also specially compressed, using the LZEXE utility to take up only
- about half the disk space required by the old .EXE file, although the
- self-extracting QLIB32.EXE file is about the same size as the old one.
-
- To extract the contents onto your hard disk, merely copy the
- contents of this disk into an appropriate directory on your hard
- disk (ie: C:\QLIB3), and call up:
-
- C:\QLIB3 > QLIB32 -N <ret>
-
- As usual, a status display will scroll out for each file as it is
- extracted to the default drive. To extract to another drive or
- directory, refer to the HELP option, by using "/H" (QLIB32/h).
-
- To invoke the program, simply call up:
-
- C:\QLIB3 > QLIB3 {d:library name} {m}
-
- where: QLIB3 is the new library/catalog file (QLIB3.EXE)
-
- {d:library name} is the drive & name of the .DBF file with
- the library/catalog of interest (optional)
-
- {m} forces a monochrome CGA compatible display
- into monochrome mode for easier readability
- (optional) (for Compaq portable, etc...)
-
- Option suffixes are just that. If you do not use them, the
- program will ask for a library file name to use, and you will be
- stuck with the automatic display mode selection.
-
- To extract & run the program on a dual floppy drive system, use
- the EXTRACT1.BAT and EXTRACT2.BAT files to get the right files on
- the right disk, (program disk and data disk) as they do not all
- fit on a single disk. Furthermore, it is suggested that plenty
- of working space be left on the data disk to accomodate new
- entries and working indexes that the program needs to make for
- itself. A simplistic check is made for adequate disk storage
- space, but you can probably over-ride it if you try hard..... If
- it does not successfully prevent you from running out of disk
- space, you may lose data. You have been warned!
-
- Refer to the QLIB3.DOC file for more information on running the
- program. It may be printed out using the PRINTDOC.BAT file.
-
- Enjoy!
-
- If you have any problems, don't hesitate to contact us.
-
- ATTENTION - FLOPPY ONLY USERS: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RUN WITH BOTH
- PROGRAM AND DATA FILES ON THE SAME 360kB FLOPPY!! THE PROGRAM
- WILL EVENTUALLY RUN OUT OF DISK SPACE AND REFUSE TO CONTINUE, OR
- IT MAY CRASH. USE DRIVE A: FOR THE PROGRAM ONLY, AND DRIVE B:
- FOR ALL OTHER FILES. PUT THE USER MANUAL ON A SEPARATE FLOPPY
- FROM EVERYTHING ELSE.
-
- HARD DISK USERS WILL NOT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS.
-
- ATTENTION - HARD DISK USERS: BEWARE THAT SOME "DISK CACHING"
- SOFTWARE MAY INTERFERE WITH THE OPERATIONS OF QLIB3. IF YOU ARE
- CURRENTLY USING "DISK CACHING" SOFTWARE AND CANNOT RUN QLIB3, OR
- IF YOU GET STRANGE RESULTS OR ERROR MESSAGES, YOU MAY HAVE TO
- DISABLE YOUR DISK CACHING SOFTWARE PRIOR TO USING QLIB3.
